How To: Make A Pumpkin Spice Latte

Oh my gawd, guys.

It’s official.

It’s Autumn.

Hold on while I turn my fairy lights on.. much better!

I freaking love Autumn. I love absolutely everything about Autumn, from the dark mornings, to the crisp days, through to the fact it’s generally acceptable to put your PJs on at 6pm and have a cosy night in! Can I get a hallelujah?!

You know what I most love about Autumn though? … The Pumpkin Spice Latte!

The King of all drinks is back at a Starbucks near you, and it’s as good as ever. So good, in fact, that it has me scrambling around looking for additional money to feed my Starbucks addiction! It’s acceptable to make two daily trips to Starbucks, right?!

Although I can probably talk myself round to believing it’s sociably acceptable, it’s definitely not acceptable on my poor bank! I’m half expecting the fraud team to contact me to ask if I’ve purchased a franchise in Starbucks soon. I mean, I haven’t, wait, should I?!

Anyway, the point is.. with my ever decreasing bank account looming and my addiction to Pumpkin Spice Lattes growing, I knew I needed to do something about it, and while going cold turkey was clearly not an option, making your own pumpkin spice lattes at home for a fraction of the cost, totally is!!

BONUS – you can make this while in your PJs with Netflix on in the background. I tried it last night! Yeah!

So what will you need for this masterpiece?!

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons of sugar, depending on how sweet you like it (if you’re going for exactly like Starbucks, go for 3)
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, plus more for serving (cinnamon can be substituted here for a subtle taste)
  • 1/2 cup of strong, hot coffee
  • Whipped cream for serving – yes!

What to do, I hear you ask!?

Add the milk, pumpkin puree and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Heat this until it is hot, however you don’t want this to boil.

Once the mixture is hot, take the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and 1/2 cup of coffee.

Your mixture should be looking very latte like at the moment, so now you’re ready to serve this. This mixture should fit two regular sized cups, however if you’re me, with a bottomless mug, it will fill your mug perfectly. So just do you, girl.

Once safely in your FAVOURITE mug, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Promptly take a good few hundred instagram photos of your masterpiece, and then you are ready to drink it!
